Started by L.A. based painter Sandy Rodriguez and Poet/Journalist Adolfo Guzman Lopez, Project 1521 has gathered 10 poets and artists to reflect on the 500 years since the fall of the Aztec Empire.. This project is also a cadre of Southern California poets, scholars, and artists generating literary and visual works as acts of resistance.
Their book “You Will Not Be Forgotten” is the first volume of poetry created by the members of this group, published by Los Angeles-based independent Hinchas de Poesía Press. This book includes a passage from Julia Bogany on Empowering the Future, which is featured below. The book is also dedicated to Julia and includes the Tongva Land Acknowledgement.
